About This Item
Sutton County, Texas is in SW Texas west of San Antonio. Sonora is the main town. It's high plains country. Ranching and farming. Water is scarce. This used to be Indian country, but even they didn't hang around much because the water supply was erratic. The Edwards Aquifer is underneath, but it's deep in the limestone and it took mechanized drilling to get to it. This is a really thorough book: lots of archival photographs, well written history, names and places and family stories. The book took some moisture at one time and the last 75 pages have some warpage. The cover is especially attractive with the house, well and livestock scene embossed and gilded. A little bit of the gold has rubbed off the steer. The pages are clean and unmarked, and the corners are square. The book presents well and is in very good condition.
