Set in the sixteenth century, the famous Admiral Andrea Doria led the defense of Genoa from attacking Muslim ships led by Dragut-Reis. The Italian-born Sabatini lived most of his adult life in Britain. He was fluent in numerous languages, but chose to write in English because (per Wikipedia), "all the best stories are written in English." --- In full reddish-brown cloth-covered boards with cover & spine titling in red. Volume lacks the dust jacket. --- With tears to cloth along back joint & lightly sunned spine. Also with prior ownership evidence by a Chicago book club being adhesive remnants to front free endpaper and rubberstampings to front paste-down, else a sound copy.; Ex-Library; Octavo - 8 to 9 in. tall; iv, (2), 393 pages .

Binding and hinges tight and square; contents clean and unmarked except for some pencil marks on FFEP. 393pp. Reprint edition,. All items carefully packed to avoid damage from moisture and rough handling.

Small child's pencil scrawls next to page numbers of first 20 or so pages; small hole at top of page 17. Otherwise clean and tight. Historical novel by the author of CAPTAIN BLOOD.

DJ not price clipped, ( price $2.50) but does have creasing, several tears, and edgewear. Now protected in mylar, and still attractive. Book has some minor shelfwear as well.
