First edition. Attentive biography of Horace Austin Warner Tabor (1830-1899), the Colorado silver king whose vast fortune was built by the Matchless Mine in the Leadville Mining District. The mine is perhaps best known, however, as the home of Horace Tabor's rags-to-riches second wife, Elizabeth McCourt "Baby Doe" Tabor (1854-1935), who lived there on and off for more than three decades after Horace's death, hoping for a return of the mine's boom days. Signed by Gandy on the title page, with a lengthy typed letter signed from his wife laid in. Octavo. Original blue cloth binding, with silver titles. Very light rubbing to the corners and tips. The dust jacket is particularly fresh, with a small scuff and a piece of tape to the front flap; else near fine.
