In November, 1943, the sibmarine USS Sculpin was attacked in the South Pacific by a Japanese destroyer; heavily damaged, it eventually had to surface and the crew taken captive. An officer on the Sculpin however, Lt. Commander Cromwell, has vital secret---knowledge that the United States had managed to crack the secter Japanese war codes. Two weeks later, another sub, the USS Sailfish, the sister ship to the Sculpin, came upon a Japanese aircraft carrier that, unbeknownst to them, carried the captured Sculpin crew. The incredible connections between thes etow ships are dramatically portrayed in this story.
