About This Item
New York: Johnson & Miles, 1870. Hardcover. Very Good. 5 volumes. No date, c. 1870. Full brown morocco leather with blind stamped and decorative gilt borders to front and rear boards, with gilt lettered spines, gilt raised bands and devices in compartments, all edges gilt, blue and red marbled endpapers, gilt board edges and inner dentelles. Volume 1 with steel engraved portrait and frontis portrait of the author. A few scuffs have been touched up in several places around the spines, page 557-58 has a piece missing in the upper corner, only in the margin, not affecting any text, and some pages in that volume a little spotty, but overall the set is very clean, the volumes are tight and square. Overall a very good and attractive set.
