An early edition of this work, first published in 1896. An anthology of short tales by famous English novelist Richard Doddridge Blackmore, known for his descriptions and personifications of the countryside and his novel Lorna Doone. Featuring four tales: 'Slain by the Doones,' 'Frida,' 'George Bowring,' and 'Crocker's Hole.' Black and white decorations to title page. In the original publisher's full cloth binding. Externally smart with minor shelf wear, bumped to head and tail of spine and extremities, boards lightly marked. Previous ownership inscription to front pastedown dated 1938. Internally, firmly bound. Minor staining mark and light spotting to first few leaves, pages otherwise generally bright and clean. Very Good

Where are We?
Based in the literary city of Bath, our offices are housed in the Eastern Dispensary. Built in 1845, the building originally existed as a charitable institution providing medical care. The building now houses our collection of over twenty thousand books and has five full time members of staff.
