In many ways, Fnelon's classic treatment of prayer is profoundly meaningful for modern readers, with its concern for timeless issues such as choosing friends wisely, living in the present, refraining from judging, and praying in spite of life's distractions.--"Library Journal."

Later exiled from Versailles for political reasons, Fnelon set about with considerable energy to improve the lot of peasants and to deepen the spiritual life of all with whom he came in contact.
