About This Item
New York: Brentano's, N.d. [1911], 1911. First American trade edition. Large 8vo (24.5 x 18 cm); illustrated by Willy Pogany, with line drawings, tipped-in lithographs and twelve tipped-in color plates. Light wear to head and foot of backstrip; some spotting to endpapers, else a good copy or better in original gilt-stamped and decorated black cloth. SIGNED by Pogany. The first of Pogany's three lavishly illustrated Wagner titles. "[Pogany's] illustrations to Wagner's 'Tannhauser' may be preferred to Rackham's Wagner illustrations as they have a strong German 'fin de siecle' feel about them." (Felmingham, "The Illustrated Gift Book 1880-1930")..
