C. Marpon et E. Flammarion, 1888. First Edition. Leather Binding. Very Good/No Jacket. 12mo - over 6¾" - 7¾" Tall (small). Slight sunning and fading to spine; slight wear to spine edges and corners; slight rubbing and browning to covers (leather over boards; chiefly at edges); slight internal uniform browning (chiefly to edges). [8], 365, [5] pages + plate. Text in French. Later issue ('Cent-trente-troisieme mille'; title page recto) of the comic adventures of the mock-hero of the southeastern French region while in Switzerland; notable for the marginal embellishments and decorative pieces in gravure (by Guillaume Freres) as well as the color frontispiece. Originally published in 1885 (see BMC, volume 6, page 1026, column 1103). Bound in half dark maroon morocco over matching marbled boards, gilt-stamped and decorated spine, green marbled endpapers, all edges trimmed and flecked brown, light green silk bookmarker.
