Grosset is famed for its reprints and most often did not specify the year of the reprint on the title or copyright page, as in this case. Black lettering on red cloth covers. Corners slightly bumped, slight shelfwear to bottom edge. Endpapers, text and interior are in very good condition, pages evenly lightly toned. SIGNED and INSCRIBED "to Rufus Webb from a friend of his Dad, Edgar Rice Burroughs, Honolulu, August 27, 1944." on f.e.p. Burroughs spent part of W.W.II in Hawaii, and servicemen came to him with copies of his Tarzan and 'John Carter of Mars' books, asking for him to autograph them! This is one! Laid-in loosely is a 1981 letter, folded in half, signed by Louis Weinstein of Heritage Books, Los Angeles, replying to a query about this book.
