About This Item

Touchstone, 1974. Softcover. Acceptable. Softcover box set with slipcase. Contains The Teachings of Don Juan: A Yaqui Way of Knowledge, A Separate Reality, Journey to Ixtla, Tales of Power. Slipcase is extremely worn and faded, scraped on all edges, bumped and worn corners. The backside of the slipcase has some trauma, with the paper over the carboard peeling away at the bottom and the corners extremely worn. All 4 volumes are stained on upper portion of text block at the spine, with the upper corner of The Teachings of Don Juan appearing to be an actual liquid stain and not just sunned. The stains do not reach further down onto the pages. Each book has a reading crease, but overly so. The bindings of each are still in good shape and it's clear that each book was kept in the case, not excessively read or left laying about. Outside edges of text block have smudges/fingerprint. Cover artwork is still bright and colorful. Books are in far better condition than the slipcase. We will be happy to send photos upon request.

Synopsis

The Teachings of Don Juan: A Yaqui Way of Knowledge was published by the University of California Press in 1968 as a work of anthropology. It was written by Carlos Castaneda and submitted as his master’s thesis in the school of anthropology. It reportedly documents the events that took place during an apprenticeship he claimed to have served with a self-proclaimed Yaqui Indian Sorcerer, don Juan Matus, between 1960 and 1965.
