Corners worn at tips with bord just showing, pale age-browning throughout, the names of the shells are neatly listed in old ink on the large inner blank margins, light foxing to plates and a few very small pale stains to 3 plates, otherwise a very good copy. Jacob Theodor Klein, nickname Plinius Gedanensium (1685 1759) was a Royal Prussian jurist, historian, botanist, mathematician and diplomat in the service of Polish King August II the Strong. Klein studied natural history and used his position as the secretary of the city of Danzig to found a botanical garden there (now called Ogród Botaniczny w Oliwie). For his work in the field of natural science, Klein had been awarded the membership of several scientific societies, including the Royal Society in London and the Danzig Research Society.
