About This Item

London: Privately Printed, 1676. A facsimile of the 1676 edition originally published by Thomas Basset and Richard Chiswell, containing 88 double spread maps. Awaiting binding or breaking. Double page decorated titles followed by formal title page. Dedication to the Right Honourable Sr. Joseph Sheldon, Kt. Lord Mayor of the City of London etc. Dedication to the Most High, and most Potent Monarch James, of Great Britain, France, and Ireland, King; etc. Then follows Book one with five pages of introductory text and then double page maps of the Counties of England starting with a map of Great Britain - 48 maps in total. This is followed by the Second Book - 12 maps of Wales. Then there are 4 double pages on the roads of England. The Third Book has a map of Scotland, and then a map of Ireland and the counties of Ireland. Then lastly are the world maps, 24 in total, including New York, Maryland, New England, Russia, China, Jamaica as they were in 1676. All maps are in black and white. None have been coloured. This book has been displayed and demonstrated in the shop so the card covers show some signs of wear. A very attractive, sumptuous and fascinating book. Top quality edition facsimiled and published in 1991 by Jonathan Potter. The book is heavy, so extra postage may be required if going abroad.. Privately Printed. No Binding. Very Good/No Jacket. Folio - over 12" - 15" tall. Limp Covers.
