Vienna: Trattner, 1760, FIRST EDITION, 139 pages. 8vo, contemporary marbled paper wrappers, uncut; Latin text; Scattered foxing, staining to end pages, fragile binding, several pencil marks on title page. Antonius de Haen was an Austrian physician of Dutch ancestry born in the Haguein 1704. He studied at the University of Vienna, later becoming head of its medicalclinic where he was famous for teaching students at the bedside of patients.He was an associate of Gerard van Swieten whom he worked with to structuremedical classes which placed emphasis on detailed case histories and post-mortem investigations. He was one of the first physicians to routinely use thethermometer as he perceived that temperature was a valuable indication ofpotential illness.
