About This Item
Garden City, NY: The Crime Club - Doubleday, Doran & Co, 1929. First U.S. Edition. Hardcover. Near Fine Minus/Very Good. 8vo., 351pp. Sharp First US Edition, published four years after the British first by Hodder & Stoughton. Original black cloth with titles stamped in red on the spine and the front board. Square, tight and clean throughout with just a hint of bumping at the spine ends but quite minor. Some light, scattered spotting to outer page edges. Small chip out of pg 344 and short closed tear on pg. 345; neither effecting text. Very attractive unclipped dust-wrapper, ($2.00), has a touch of wear to the crown and two shallow, barely noticeable, vertical creases on the spine. Front flap and hinge each have a short neat split along the seem. Tiny closed tear along the bottom front edge. Not perfect but fresh, bright, fairly well-preserved and scarce in any condition. A very pretty collectable copy of an uncommon title, particularly in nice condition, and harder to find than the British edition. (Hubin p.411).
