About This Item
1886 1ed Greely Arctic Explorations Voyages Lady Franklin Bay Expedition Map 2v
This 'Three Years of Arctic Service' is a narrative by Adolphus Greely of the United States expedition Lady Franklin Bay, on the east coast of Ellesmere Island. The expedition explored the north coast of Greenland from Cape Bryant to Cape Washington, the interior and west coast of Grinnell Land and extended the mapping of Hayes Sound. After the failure of relief ships the party made their way to Cape Sabine, where six survivors were rescued after enduring frostbite, starvation, cannibalism, and an execution.
This book includes accounts of the battle with the ice on the sea, the sledge journeys, the life of the men in the camp and on the march, and the geography of the territory explored. In addition to the fascinating contents, it features an impressive map!
