About This Item

81 Centre Avenue, New Rochelle, N.Y.: Arlington House Publishers, 1961. Stated Revised Edition published in 1966 by Arlington house. First edition thus of this classic story espousing the benefits of free enterprise and capitalism. Originally published in 1951 as "The Great Idea". The revision is rather unique for finished novels, but clarifies the ending and moral of Hazlitt's monumental, but concise concepts. Black buckram (cloth) boards, crisp gilt spine titles, fine. Pages fine, no writing. Bind fine, square; hinges intact. Dust wrapper, moderate shelf wear, rub, areas of toning; unclipped 6.00, protected in new clear sleeve. Near fine scarcity in near very good wrapper. So this was Moscow! The capital of WonWorld! In this dystopian novel, Peter Uldanov is the son of WonWorld's dictator, Stalenin. Although he leads a sheltered life, Peter is appalled by the poverty, slave labor, and horrors witnessed. Upon succeeding his father as dictator, Peter unleashes a variety of reforms that look uncannily like free enterprise, small business, and independence before being forced to flee to America. The author of this uniquely fascinating novel was the American author and journalist Henry Hazlitt (1894-1993), especially known for celebrating the free market in "Economics in One Lesson." Hazlitt was a libertarian philosopher, economist, and journalist for various publications including The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, and Newsweek. He was the founding vice-president of the Foundation for Economic Education and an early editor of The Freeman, a pivotal libertarian magazine. In 1946 he wrote "Economics in One Lesson," a seminal and easily digested discourse on free market economics, which Ayn Rand called a "magnificent job of theoretical exposition." Hazlitt is credited with bringing his ideas and those of the Austrian School to American economics influencing among many, economist Ludwig von Mises and three-time presidential candidate Ron Paul. Printed in the United States of America. 368 pages. Insured post.. Revised Edition . Hard Cover. Fine/Very Good. 8vo - over 7¾ - 9¾" Tall.
