New York: Grosset & Dunlap, 1954. A handsome copy. Clean, square, and tight. Front inner hinge starting, but still holding very firm. The Dust Jacket is bright and shiny, with a just a little soil at the edge of the white parts. NOT price clipped (100100 at upper right, with 110-160 at lower left). No tears. No creases. Protected by a removable Brodart clear plastic sleeve. No owner's name or bookplate. No remainder mark. Pages are crisp and unmarked -- probably never read. Top edge tinted blue. Second book in the Tom Swift Jr. series, with "2" in a triangle on the jacket spine. The verso of the half title page lists the first 7 books in the series, ending with DIVING SEACOPTER, so this copy probably dates from circa 1956. Handsomely illustrated by Graham Kaye with endpaper art, a frontispiece, 11 interior drawings, and a full-color Dust Jacket painting that wraps-around to include the spine. This copy agrees completely with the format 1 description in the Mattson/Davis bibliography, including medium blue boards lettered in dark blue, and pictorial endpapers depicting Tom at the window of his flying lab. Mattson/Davis does not definitively describe the jacket. The rear inner flap of this copy's Dust Jacket lists 35 Hardy Boys titles, from THE TOWER TREASURE to THE CLUE IN THE EMBERS. The rear panel of the Dust Jacket features a full page ad for WE WERE THERE WITH BYRD AT THE SOUTH POLE (first published in 1956). Johnson 023S.2.
