Frankfurt: Merian, 1644. Hardcover (rebound in leather). Good Condition. 3 volumes bound in one each with separate title pages, rebound in full black morocco. Franconiae dated 1648 in the dedication (but likely a ca. 1679 reimpression), the others, 1646 and 1644 on the title pages. Scattered paper flaws, old repairs and tears (including a long tear to first title page), some old cellotape repairs to first title and elsewhere (significant cellotape repair to a few of the large folding plates including a view of Nuremberg), scattered browning and light dampstains, creases. Restitched by machine a bit close so that the inner gutter is not visible on the double page plates. With 44 plates, maps and views in Topographia Franconiae - the plate list is a bit difficult, but apparently missing 2. 41 plates, maps and views in Archiepiscopatum, Moguntinensis and 58 in Bavaria. In both cases apparently complete as compared to the rather obscure plates lists, but often bound out of order. Two plates detached but present. Most folding or double page, many plates with multiple views. Brunet V 1530 Size: Folio. Quantity Available: 1. Shipped Weight: Over 3 kilos. Category: Travel & Places; Antiquarian & Rare. Inventory No: 043172.

Description:
Hoffmann und Campe Verlag, 1963. Hardcover. Fair/No Jacket. THIS BOOK IS IN GERMAN (but the images are its main content). Mit einer Einleitung von Friedrich Schnack. Panoramas of 46 European cities and their surroundings, drawn from the 1695 edition of Archontologia Cosmica and the Topographia by the Swiss engraver Matthaeus Merian (the Elder) earlier in the 17th century. The engravings are on fold-out panoramic pages. 8" x 10-1/2" (~20 cm x 26.5 cm), pictorial boards, dust soil to edges, Paris fold-out was creased in the wrong place and protrudes slightly. The condition "fair" is a compromise between the "good" interior and "poor" binding: the backstrip is entirely missing and the paper over boards is ragged along where the backstrip was. Gift inscription on the half-title, other pages unmarked.

Description:
London: Longman, Hurst, Rees, Orme & Brown, 1823. 1st Edition . Hardcover. Good/No Jacket. 8vo - over 7¾ - 9¾" tall. pp: [viii]ix-xii [1]2-544. FIRST EDITION. Bound in brown half-leather over marbled boards, title in gilt within a red title piece. The first edition of the author's first book. William Wilson (1772-1849) inherited a substantial sum from an uncle, and decided to indulge his passion for travel. He travelled throughout Europe and The Middle East and wrote a series of books. This was his first, and it was the most popular, going through several editions. This is a good copy as all plates, including the frontispiece, have been excised. The boards show moderate wear, heavier at the spine ends. The front hinge is cracked. The text block is mainly clean with a few marks of unknown origin.

Octavo (8 3/4" x 5 1/2") issued in blue cloth with gilt lettering to spine and gilt sailing ship to front cover. Translated by Anthony Mango. Second Series, volumes 138 and 139. First edition.By the early sixteenth century the loosely knit kingdom of Georgia had disintegrated from the strong monarch of the middle ages to a number of small states and principalities. This internal disunity made the Georgians easy victims of the power politics of the neighboring Ottoman and Safavid empires, and by the end of the century the southward drive of the Russians intensified the struggle for military and diplomatic control over the whole of the Caucasian isthmus. As a result of this struggle seventeen embassies were exchanged between the Russian tsars and the Georgian kins ruling in Kakheti during the years 1564-1605. W E D Allen and Anthony… Read More
