About This Item

NY: Horace Thayer, 1858. Hardcover. Early US printing, embossed blue cloth with gilt lettering and decorations on spine, overall very good+ in original cloth. Embossed on both boards are Native American symbols surrounding the profile of a Native American (presumably De-Coo-Dah). Wear at corners and spine ends, and embossing is a little worn so that images are not very sharp. Yellow endpapers, foldout frontispiece, many illustrative drawings throughout the text. Contents and list of engravings at rear; 334 pages. Two pages (presumably blanks) after the final page of text have been excised. Laid in is a bookseller's description of this book cut from a catalogue or list of books for sale, with the notation "ordered" written at the side. A tight, square copy with no names or other writing in the book. Copyright is 1852, so this is a later, but early edition.
