Description

New York & London: Harper & Bros, 1899. George Washington Steevens (1869-1900), despite his name, was a British journalist, one of the more noted war correspondents of his day. His early study of the "Dreyfus Affair" makes clear the anti-Semitism infecting France. This is a Very Good copy of the First American Edition. Dark blue cloth binding, ruled in red, and with white lettering on the cover and spine. (Quercus notes that the binding matches another Harper publication freom 1899 - "The Tragedy of Dreyfus" - and speculates whether they were part of a series.) Clean text; 293 pages, indexed, Previous-owner signature on the FFEP; light bumps; spine rubbed at head and foot. No dustjacket. Size: 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. First American Edition.. Hard Cover.
