The first edition of this beautifully illustrated Ernest Bramah 'Kai Lung' work, signed by the illustrator, Ilbery Lynch. The first edition of this work, one of only five hundred copies produced.With the inscription 'To Jeoffrey W. D. [...] from the artist. Ilbery Lynch, July 1919' to the front free endpaper. Illustrated with twelve plates by Lynch, each retaining the original captioned tissue guard. Collated, complete.A wonderful limited edition work, providing illustrations to accompany a fantastical tale of ancient China that first appeared in 'The Wallet of Kai Lung', in 1900.Ernest Bramah was an English author whose work spanned many genres including humour, science fiction and crime. His novel, 'What Might Have Been', was a major influence for George Orwell's classic, 'Nineteen Eighty-Four'. In the publisher's original cloth binding, with gilt detailing to front board. Small split in cloth to tail of back strip. Inscription to front free endpaper. Internally, firmly bound. Pages lightly age toned, with handling marks and spotting throughout, most concentrated to page perimeters. Very Good
