New York: Gnome Press, [1951]. 8vo. 400 pp. With 16 colour plates. Quarter-red cloth over gray-coloured boards, silver lettering on spine (slight shelfwear, minor wear & bumping to corners), w/ d.j. cover art of alien races by Edd Cartier (minor chipping head & foot of spine, some creasing, couple minor closed tears, edgewear), still VG/G copy. First Gnome edition of this excellent anthology with contributions by Fredric Brown, A.E. Van Vogt, Ray Bradbury, Poul Anderson, Kummer, Osborne, and others. Of particular interest are the colour plates by Edd Cartier, featuring a special story of “Interstellar Zoo” by David Kyle. Cartier (1914-2008) was a popular science fiction pulp artist whose artwork graced The Shadow, Astounding, Doc Savage, Planet Stories, and Fantastic Adventures.
