The author was an outstanding Spanish American figure who distinguished himself as a writer, educator, world traveler, and statesman in the mid-1800s. This work, a selection from the original entitled Viajes en Europa, Africa, i America, is a product of the travels he undertook in 1845-1848 for the Chilean government. The portion dealing with the US, here translated in its entirety, documents his first encounter with the country who institutions and culture he cam to regard as models for Argentina and for the entire world. A clean very presentable copy in a Brodart mylar jacket.
