About This Item
New York: Random House Publishers, (1946). BCE, 4to, 222pp, illustrated by William Sharp. G in G dj which is chipped at the head and tail of the spine. A foreword by Deems Taylor, a short biography by John Tasker Howard, and words and music for fifty of Stephen Foster's most popular songs. Stephen Foster may have visited the Rowan mansion in Bardstown, Kentucky, owned by his cousins. Legend has it that his inspiration for MY OLD KENTUCKY HOME GOOD NIGHT, now Kentucky's state song, came after a visit in the 1850's, however there is no proof that he was ever there. Nonetheless, the mansion, now a state shrine , stages a musical based on Foster's life for several weeks every year..
