Covers rubbed and scuffed, chipping to heel of spine with endband exposed and loose, two old institutional stamps (German?) to volume 1 title-page, with handwritten number beneath (no other markings), very light staining to preliminary pages, otherwise a very good, clean, tight copy of an important work. MacLaurin's "defense of the Newtonian method, was written in reply to criticisms by Bishop George Berkeley of England that Newton's calculus was based on faulty reasoning.
