Book First publication of the English translation of Tractatus de febre miliari, seu vesiculari, 1716. iiiv [sic; viii], 256 pages; 20 cm. Hamilton, physician to Queen Anne, begins with three brief chapters on "Rules for the Practice of Physick" and then provides nine chapters on his treatise, followed by 17 histories of patients with miliary fever he has treated. Lawrence writes, "Miliary fever takes its Name from the Pustles, or Vesicles, in some sort resembling the form of Gromwel-seeds" (p. 57) -- in other words, small fluid-filled blisters that resemble millet WorldCat shows eight holdings, including the National Library of Medicine, Johns Hopkins Medical Institutions, Yale, Wellcome Library (London) and the History of Medicine Library (Sidney) First Thus. Size: 8"-9" - Octavo (8vo). 256 pages. Item Type: Book. Text block is tight, bright and unmarked. The front hinge is broken, with the front cover hanging on by a thread. The spine has worked and gilded bands with the author and title in gilt on red leather. Some loss of leather at the corners at along the top edge of the front board. No foxing in this copy. All edges gilt in good condition. There is a discrete single-line historical society stamp at the top of the inside front cover and a catalog number written in pencil below it and a call number label at the foot of the spine.
