Description

London: Methuen & Co., 1948. First edition. Cloth. Fine/Near Fine. 7.5" by 5". None. A superior first edition copy in its original dustwrapper of this novel by Leonard Strong. The first edition of this work. A novel set in a small seaside town, a remnant of the late Victorian era. Trevannion is a magnificent failure, a richly endowed character: this, the story of his redemption. A very subtle and colourful read with unforgettable characters. Leonard Alfred George Strong was a popular English novelist, critic, historian, and poet. From 1938 to 1958, he was the director of the publishers Methuen Ltd. With unclipped dustwrapper. In the original publisher's green cloth binding, with titles stamped in gilt to spine. Externally, lovely with minor shelfwear. Dustwrapper is unclipped and very smart with only slight shelfwear. Minor sunning to spine. Internally, firmly bound. Minor faint spotting to fore edge, not affecting pages that remain bright and clean. Fine
