Washington DC: U.S. Geographical and Geological Survey of the Rocky Mountains, 1871. Albumen stereoview [11 cm x 15.5 cm] on a yellow mount [11.5 cm x 17.5 cm] with a printed paper label on the reverse. Strong contrasts. Vertical bend at center. View of Trinalcove taken from river left. This photograph was taken on the second Powell expedition. Labyrinth Canon Series: This canon is 62 1/2 miles long with walls from 1000 to 1300 feet in depth.
E.O. Beaman (1837-1876) was a New York landscape photographer who became the official photographer of the U.S. Geological Survey's Powell Expedition, summer, 1871, upon the recommendation of his supplier, E. & H.T. Anthony & Company. Beaman left the survey January 1872, and spent some time photographing the Indians of New Mexico and Arizona before returning East.
