Description

Canton: SunQua Studio, 1870. Silk covered boards. 12 intricate bird paintings on pith with foreground, flowers and trees detailed around them. Images include partridges, Mandarin ducks, water fowl, pheasants, etc. Leaves mounted with dark pale turquoise silk ribbon to paper leaves. Oblong 8vo, 8 1/2 x 11 3/4" with original ties. Western binding opening from the right. Bound in a green, gold, blue and red silk woven in a daisy & vine pattern, which sometimes appears with a Sunqua stamp. Sunqua was active 1830-1870. With a very early Sothebys Parke Bernet auction sticker on the cover. Paintings with minor cracks and overall very bright and stable.
