London: Chapman and Hall. Good with no dust jacket. 1857. First Edition. Cloth. 220 pp., 4 pp. publisher's advertisements dated 1856. Original blind-stamped green cloth with gilt spine title. Previous owners names (3) on ffep, title page and page 1. Three hand-coloured plates show an Officer, an Arab soldier and an Arnaout soldier. Cloth on front board has bubbled up in spots. Corners bumped ang rubbed, spine ends worn. Upper inside corner of rear board, rear endpaper stained. Text has a number of passages where last names were identified with initial only, a previous owner has written out the names in the margins the first time they appear. A first-hand account of the Crimean War. Money left England to take part in the war, joining the Bashi-Bazouks in July 1855, a band of mercenary troops fighting as irregulars with the Ottoman army.; 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall .
