Crown Publishers Ray Long (1878-1935) was a long time editor for Cosmopolitan and was responsible for the start of many careers. The sale volume, originally published in 1932, was a collection of his favorite from all the stories he reviewed as part of his job as editor. Authors include the famous (Maugham, Hemingway, Fannie Hurst, Ring Lardner, Edna Ferber, Dorothy Parker, Booth Tarkington) plus the not-so-famous now (Rupert Hughes, Ellis Parker Butler, Peter B. Kyne, James Oliver Curwood, Jack Boyle, Zona Gale, Irvin S. Cobb, Frank R. Adams, Albert Payson Terhune, Royal Brown, Laurence Stallings, and Arthur Stringer.) The book was originally published in 1932, but this is a much later printing. Since there is no price listed on the jacket, I assume it is some kind of book club. There is a dedication on the front free end page with the date 1944. Brown cloth binding with brown lettering on maroon background on front board and spine. Binding tight and square, clean and bright but the last free page in the back of the book appears to have been removed. Dust jacket carries no price (book club) and has multiple tears; now Brodart covered to prevent further deterioration. 604 pages.
