About This Item
London: Sampson Low, Marston, Searle, & Rivington, 1888. William Henry Giles Kingston (1814-1880) was a prolific author who devoted the last thirty years of his life to adventurous "Boys Books." He is noted as a translator of Jules Verne (although his wife actually did the work). This is a Very Good copy of a Later Printing ("New and Cheaper Edition"] in an evocative binding. Light gray clothstamped with an image of a boy riding (bareback) what appears to be a buffalo. Filled with black and gilt; titling and decorations on the spine as well. Clean text; 298 pages, followed by a 32-page publisher's catalog in the rear. There is no publication date, but per the TCD listing in Copac, Quercus assigns it to circa 1888. Bumped corners, rubbed at the margins, page-ends a bit dusty. Despite these signs of usage, the book presents very well, due to the sharpness of the stamping and its rather "over-the-top" imagery.. Later Printing. Decorative Cloth. Very Good/No Jacket. 12mo - over 6¾" - 7¾" tall.
