The jacket is protected by a removable Gaylord clear-plastic sleeve. NO chips. NOT price clipped ($24.95). Sharp corners. Pages are clean and unmarked. On the front pastedown endpaper is the colorful bookplate of William Jovanovich, publisher of this book. Jovanovich presided over Harcourt, Brace Jovanovich for 36 years and transformed the company into one of the nation's leading publishers. In 1970, Harcourt, Brace shareholders added Mr. Jovanovich's name to the company's title. Worth $8 million when he took it over in 1954, the firm was valued at $1.3 billion in 1990 upon his retirement. 1984. "First edition" is so stated. First printing with complete letter row (ABCDE) on the copyright page. Introduction and translation by Nabokov's son, Dmitri. Bound in the original black boards, with a black cloth spine stamped in bright gold. Complete with dust jacket. Laid in is a copy of Jovanovich's 3 page obituary (1920-2001). .
