About This Item

Boston: Houghton, Mifflin and Company, 1892. Hardcover. Small 8vo. Modern rebind in dark green cloth (gilt spine lettering) that mimics the remounted original front board cloth (with gilt lettering and black pictorial stamping). xi, (7pp), 357pp. Tissue-guarded frontispiece, 12 full-page called-for plates. Binding is fine and original front board cloth very good, showing some rubbing; new endpapers, and text block overall very good, with most leaves bright and clean but some a bit soiled and edgeworn, with occasional small mars. Attractive and tight first edition of the fourth title in the popular African-American dialect series.
