Fine in gray cloth with silver lettering in a near fine dust jacket (dj is slightly bumped on the front fold and at the side of the spine) . First US printing. The title page continues with "in which is set forth an exact account of the manner of state held by Madam Venus, goddess & meretrix, under the famous Horselberg, and containing the adventures of Tannhuser in that place, his journeying to Rome, and return to the loving mountain, now completed by John Glassco." Left uncompleted at Beardsley's death, this edition is based on Glassco's careful collating of three earlier texts by and it includes all of the original Beardsley illustrations. Originally published in France, this first US edition has a slightly modified introduction which includes a paragraph about Edmund Wilson's appreciation of Beardsley. A Black Circle Book GP-407. 140 pp plus a final drawing.
