Description

Barrage balloons are a little-known phase of American air history, although their use was extensive diring World War II. Barrage balloons were developed by the Army Air Corps and placed in service by the Coast Artillery and the Marine Corps. These lighter-than-air craft provided a sense of security and protection, particularly to the residents and industry of the west coast, in the early days of World War II, but were not without their critics.
