London, UK: Cassell and Company, 1913. Hardcover. Very Good. 12mo - over 6¾ - 7¾" tall. Wood, Stanley L. New and enlarged edition. xii, [4], 520pp, with monochrome plate frontispiece and seven further plate illustrations. Bound in full tan tree leather, with gilt decorations front, spine and rear, five raised bands, gilt titles on black leather spine label, arms of Bridlington Grammar School on front panel. All edges marbled. Marbled endpapers. Prize presentation plate, indicating the volume was once presented to H G Garland in 1915 by Bridlington Grammar School, loosely laid in. 12mo. Boards are bright, clean and crisp, just a little sunned over the spine and lightly rubbed on extreme corners and spine tips. Hint of toning on prelims, else internally neat, clean bright and tight. A lovely, handsome volume. A comprehensive account of those awarded the Victoria Cross, the highest military decoration for valour in the face of the enemy to members of the British Armed Forces.
