Valerius Maximus was a Latin writer and author of a collection of historical anecdotes: Factorum ac dictorum memorabilium libri IX ("nine books of memorable deeds and sayings", also known as De factis dictisque memorabilibus or Facta et dicta memorabilia);


Thysius was Professor of Poetry at Leiden from 1637 and later state historiographer, as well as rectore magnifici (chancellor) of Leiden University from 1658-1659.;


The bookplate is a Scottish early armorial style bookplate of Erskine of Dun signed 'A Burden S.' David Erskine, eminent lawyer, who was born at Dun, in Forfarshire, in 1670. He was the staunch friend of the nonjurant episcopal clergy, and in the last Scottish parliament zealously opposed the Union. In 1711 he was appointed one of the judges of the court of session, and in 1713 one of the lords of justiciary.;. 1335518. FP New Rockville Stock.
