Contemporary tree sheep, lettering piece and gilt fillets to boards, blind tooling to board edges. A few shallow scuffs to boards, moderate rubbing to extremities, spine ends bumped, corners bumped and somewhat worn, hinges starting, later owner bookplate (Joseph A. Sadony) to front pastedown, early owner signature (W. Thorndike) to front endleaf, small embossed stamp (of Sadony) to title page. Light browning to interior, light foxing in places. An attractive copy. $100. * Sixth edition. Freeman was clerk of courts, a register of probate and a probate judge in Massachusetts. Isaiah Thomas [1749-1831] was an important early Massachusetts printer, newspaper publisher and author. He was also the founder of the American Antiquarian Society.
