New York: The Jackson Press, 1916. Book. Near Fine. Hardcover. First American Edition, First printing.. New York: The Jackson Press, 1916. First American Edition, First printing. Near Fine/Very Good+. Scarce First American Edition in clean original jacket with price intact on spine (1.25 net). Decorated American trade binding, with winged red vampire atop a naked long-haired woman, his claws piercing her breasts and dripping blood down into the title box. Very clean gray cloth boards with red and black lettering and decoration on cover, red lettering on spine. No fraying or wear. Binding is tight & square, no cracking. Pages and edges are clean, with clean endpapers; no names, writing or marks. Translated from the German with a Preface by George Chatterton-Hill. 225 pages. Clean dust jacket has 1/16" or less chipping at top spine edge, tiny chip at base of spine (1/16" depth), a few tiny edge nicks. Enclosed in new archival quality removable mylar cover. For the collector of rare decorated American publisher's bindings or of scarce and unusual history books, this is a gem. A book written by a German Count during World War I, it proposes that England is to blame for all of Europe's woes (and many of the world's), that she is a greedy and self-serving vampire draining the life blood out of Europe, Ireland, and other countries on far-flung continents..

Description:
Oxford: Henry Cripps, 1627 An extremely rare and interesting account of European states as they were in 1627. In new full leather binding with raised bands and gilt titles to spine. It is missing some preliminaries including probably the main title page. The title page remaining has had a paper repair and has been much written on over the centuries. There is a clear signature from 1859 but all others have been crossed out. The preface is a dedication from the author to the Bishop of Lincoln. The text is then divided into the 14 books each paginated separately. Books I to III cover England and Wales; Book IIII covers Scotland; V - VII Spain; VIII - X France; XI - XIIII (part) - Germany; and the remainder of XIIII covers Switzerland, Netherland, Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Poland, Hungary, Croatia and and Dalmatia. Each book has a woodcut header and a woodcut decoration to the intial letter. There is also woodcut decoration to the ends of sections. The contents are generally clean and bright, although… Read More

1789 Works of Frederick II of Prussia Germany Seven Years WAR Politics 15v SET

"The first object in the establishment of an army ought to be making provision for the belly, that being the basis and foundation of all operations."
– Frederick the Great

Frederick II was the most famous King of Prussia, notable for his 46 years of reign. He served and ruled over Brandenburg-Prussia and was a significant force in the Wars of Polish and Austrian Succession. Throughout his life, Frederic II wrote numerous works, most of which deal with military instruction and history of war. Perhaps his 'History of the Seven Years War' is his most famous, a work detailing not only his involvement in the war, but the outcomes and their influence on European history.

Description:
1788 Queen Elizabeth I 1ed Progresses England Illustrated London MAP Nichols
"No library should be without these volumes!" (Allibone)
John Nichols was an 18th-century English antiquarian who was best-known for his portfolio of works on English royalty. Perhaps his most important work was his 'Progresses of Queen Elizabeth'. In this absolutely incredible work, Nichols highlights the reign of Elizabeth I and her influence on the English throne, foreign diplomacy, and much more. This book has long been considered one of the prime resources on the court of Elizabeth I much in part to the first-hand accounts included throughout.
According to Allibone,
"No library should be without these volumes…affording a living picture of the manners of England, its pursuits and its amusements."

New York: The Jackson Press, 1917. Hardcover. Near Fine/Near Fine. Second American edition. Translated by George Chatterton-Hill. Pictorial cloth. Light dampstain at the bottom of the text pages, thus about very good in very good pictorial dustwrapper with a corresponding stain, some small chips, and some very near professional reinforcement of the folds. Not about vampires at all, but a polemic attempting to demonstrate the insatiable greed of Great Britain for Empire. However, the striking illustration on both the front board and repeated on the dustwrapper, of a winging vampire sinking its claws into a nude woman, is among our favorites. We've never seen the book in jacket before.

Description:
Bruxelles, Melines, Cans... 1854. This is the official French version of the history of the Italians (Beaumont-Vassy does not admit to an Italy) from 1815 to 1850. In his version, the Congress of Vienna served to establish Austrian dominance in the Italian states. Austrian misrule resulted in dangerous unrest among Italians, which resulted in an unfortunate revolution. Fortunately, the French Army at Rome suppressed the irresponsible brigands led by Garibaldi, and the future, under benign French supervision, will restore tranquility to the peninsula. This copy is from the library of Nicholas Brown, Minister of the United States to Rome in 1848-50, whose sympathies were with Italian republicans.
