About This Item

New York: Harper & Brothers, 1839. Cloth. First Edition of This Edition. 12mo - over 6¾" - 7¾" tall. 110p. A very good copy, in its original cloth binding, which is somewhat waterstained and rubbed, so that some of the original blind decoration which had covered the whole covers is no longer present, the spine ends are slightly rubbed and slightly worn, the forecorners of the covers are slightly bumped and worn, inside on the pages there is a 2 inch nearly clear water-stain shaped like a mountain which starts at the very front at the bottom and continues through at least half of the book, although it gets smaller and is very hard to see as it continues, there is some foxing here and there is a plain bookplate on the front free endpaper. This copy (BAL 17201) is a slightly revised edition from the privately printed Boston, 1837 edition (BAL 17198). This and an earlier play were both produced at the Tremont Theatre, Boston. "The last-named tragedy [Velasco], written for Miss Ellen Tree, was so far as acting possibilities were concerned, the most successful of his dramatic attempts, and won some slight vogue on the English as well as on the American stage." (DAB 8.2: 356.). First Edition of This Edition. Cloth. Very Good. 12mo - over 6¾" - 7¾" tall.
