Set of 3 volumes of this finely illustrated review of the manners, lifestyles and costumes of all the peoples of the world.

Complete with 3 handcolored title pages and 365 handcolored illustrations on 184 lithographic plates of native costumes, customs, weapons, views, etc. (Missing the volume on Europe.) Text in German.

Vol. 1, Asia, engraved title page, 278pp, 68 plates; Vol. 2, Africa, engraved title page, 256pp, 52 plates; and Vol. 3 North and South America, Australia and the South Sea Islands, engraved title page, 136pp and 36 plates (Americas), 134pp and 28 plates (Australia).

Rare to find even partial sets with handcolored plates.

Condition: Cloth spines frayed and repaired, marbled boards scuffed, stamp of Carl Schmidt on fep and title pages, interior clean and unfoxed, lithographic plates with fine handcolor.

Goedsche (1785-1863) was a German writer, bookseller and publisher in Meissen. The volumes were self-published from 1830 to 1839.
