1748 1st ed Henry Ellis Voyage to Hudson Bay Northwest Passage ESKIMOS Canada

Henry Ellis was an 18th-century voyager who sought to find a northwest passage from the Hudson Bay. The expedition, however, proved that no such passage existed. And while Ellis and the crew felt that the excursion was a failure, ultimately, it proved to be quite valuable in that it provided information about the life and culture of Eskimos, observations of the behavior of the sea and the tides, and, of course, that no Northwest Passage existed. This work also includes a historical perspective on the first 23 English voyages that all attempted to discover the Northwest Passage.

Charles Boutell was a 19th-century English archaeologist known for his famous book on English heraldry and monumental brasses. Brasses, which are a form of engraving, were popular forms of memorials used by English and European cathedrals. Rare original poetry book with cloth covered boards, copyright 1880 by J. W. Shoemaker & Co. This edition published in 1906 by the Penn Publishing company, Philadelphia. From the estate of my great-great grandfather.Includes many unique poems and recitations such as "To a skull", "Uncle Daniel's Introduction to a Mississippi Steamer", "The Leak in the Dyke", etc. More well-known poetry includes "Song of Birds", "Old Ironsides", and "Bannock Burn" by Robbie Burns. Light rubbing and bumps to outside spine edges. Back cover and interior cloth covered board has a stain at top. Original owner's name and address from 1908, but no other writing or marks. First 2 pages have a stain at top, but text of 192 pages of poetry and recitations is totally clean with light tanning of pages.
