New York (and Cambridge, MA): Hurd and Houghton (and Riverside Press), 1871. Cloth. Very Good. INSCRIBED BY JOHN BURROUGHS IN YEAR-OF-PUBLICATION on the front free endpaper. A solid copy to boot of the 1871 1st edition of the author's 2nd published book. Solid and VG in its chocolate-brown cloth, with decorative gilt-titling and insignia along the front panel and spine. Former owner bookplate (and brief written comment below it) at the front pastedown, light wear to the spine crown and just a bit of light chipping at the spine base. 12mo, also called at the half-title "The Return of the Birds"
