About This Item

University of Oklahoma Press (1961), Edition: First Edition, 358 pages, 1961. Hardcover. War-path and bivouac; or, The conquest of the Sioux,: A narrative of stirring personal experiences and adventures in the Big Horn and Yellowstone ... border in 1879 (The Western frontier library) by John F Finerty (1961)

Synopsis

A faithful narrative of stirring events the like of which can never again occur upon our continent. These memoirs aim at laying before the public the adventures, privations, heroism and horrors of our last great Indian wars, exactly as they presented themselves to the writer in battle, on the march or in bivouac. The author wrote this book in an attempt to portray the sufferings and deeds of the national army in their attempts to extend our borders, ensure the safety of our pioneers, and uphold the honor of the country. Written in dedication to the American army and the American country, this piece of literature is one of great patriotism. Considered an excellent source of information on the battles and lifestyles of the American army during the great period of westward expansion.
