Boston, MA: William R. Ware / J. R. Osgood. Very Good. 1880. Hardcover. B&W Illustrations; c1880. This is a portfolio of plates which accompany his treatise on Modern Perspective. This is a folio sized portfolio of brown cloth with three cloth ties at the edges. Also included are five pages of a "Perspective Syllabus" for the course, with the owner's initials inked at the bottom edge of the first page. Plates #11-14 are lacking. The author, William Robert Ware, is credited with designing the High Street Church in Brookline, MA, along with Harvard's Memorial and Weld Halls and several other local landmarks. In 1865, he became the first Professor of Architecture at Massachusetts Institute of Technology. In 1881 he moved to New York, where he founded the School of Architecture at Columbia University. "William Robert Ware's lifelong work as an architectural educator had an unparalleled influence on the development of the profession in America. The models he established, first at MIT and later at Columbia University, provided the foundation for numerous architectural programs throughout the country. " Only one copy of these plates are found on Worldcat at the University of Champaign Illinois. Scarce. .
