About This Item

New York: David McKay Company, Inc., 1960 WYSIWYG pricing--no added shipping charge for standard shipping within USA. Full orange cloth, xi, 340 pp, notes, index. Top corners bumped. DJ rubbed, tears & creases to edges, loss of a few letters near bottom of front panel; in Brodart archival cover. According to the DJ, "Mr. Packard now demonstrates that persuasion and a desire for social upgrading are no longer enough to sell the surplus of products industry produces. Productivity is now being maintained by such strategies as 'planned obsolescence,' and in startling--and to many horrifying--detail, Packard now shows how waste has become a virtue and 'product death' a watchword in American industry. Though Mr. Packard has no quarrel with legitimate technological advancement, he seriously questions the morality and economic validity of a system that in order to exist depends upon artificially shortening the useful life of products. ... Packard gets to the heart of this new 'philosophy of waste,' tells who the waste makers are, how they operate, what they do to us." Shipping weight 2 lbs.. 3rd ptg. . VG/G+. 21 X 14 cm.
