About This Item
Toronto: McClelland, Goodchild & Stewart, 1916. First Edition. Hardcover. Very Good. First edition. Blue cloth printed in black. Very Good. Spine toned, cloth lightly soiled and with a water spot to the rear cover, light wear to spine ends. Gilt stamping to front cover has almost all but tarnished to black, as is very common with this title. Top edge of page block shows a stain, foxing and a patch of wear. Previous owner initials in ink and small bookseller ticket to front free end paper. Pages foxed heavily throughout. The first of Canadian-born author L. M. Montgomery's books to be published by a Canadian publisher. The poem "The Watchman" was recited at the author's funeral.
