Illustrated-Frontispiece: 'Catharine Glover' and five more monotone plates. Includes Introduction, Preface, Notes, Glossary, and Index. Note references are on the foot of each page where they occur. The book is bound in olive-green buckram binding which is quite clean, with gilt titles to spine and front, edges rubbed, light wear to corners and spine ends. Cover loose from crash; sewn binding solid with crash and tight endband at spine head. Web showing at inner hinge, front and back. Top edge gilt. Fore edge and lower edge very rough cut, some unopened pages. Pages quite clean, no marks of any kind, no foxing, lightly toned. The Waverly Novels are a long series of novels by Sir Walter Scott, the Magnum Opus 48 volume set being published between 1829-1833, with all subsequent sets based on that set until the standard modern edition, a thirty-volume set, was published. The early novels dealt with phases of Scottish history characterizing ordinary people, often using regional dialect; later novels were historical novels, published between 1814-1832. The novel in this volume, "The Fair Maid of Perth' was first published in 1828, set during 1396 in Perthshire, Scotland. Notes, Glossary, and Index. 547 pages. 8vo. 1902, P. F. Collier & Son.
